3 Easy Ways to Start Saving for College Tuition Today
If you’re looking forward to going to college—or sending your child to college—then one thing is most likely at the forefront of your mind: How are you going to pay for it? The good news is that there are many simple ways that you can begin saving for college tuition that will make a big different in the long run. Keep reading for three great ideas that will help you save.
1. Make the savings automatic
Being consistent with your savings will help you to save quite a bit over the long run. Instead of waiting for the time when you have some extra money to throw into your savings account, make your savings automatic. Create the habit of saving $50 for every paycheck you receive. Put this money into a savings account specifically for college. And an added bonus for saving this way is that your savings will earn interest, giving you even more money to go towards that expensive college tuition.
2. Submit great exams to get college credit
Did you know that if your child is in college and gets a high enough mark on an Advanced Placement Program exam, he or she can actually get a free credit for college? Set up a meeting with the school counselor to learn more about this, and encourage your child to save all of his or her exams that she or he received high marks on.
3. Extra bonuses? Save them!
If you receive an extra bonus or reward for your hard work, instead of buying that new outfit or gadget to treat yourself, put that bonus into your savings account. It wasn’t money that you were counting on for regular bills, so you won’t miss it. And if you can continue, with your spouse, to save those unexpected bonuses, then you’ll see your savings account grow exponentially.
These are just three easy ways that you can start saving for college tuition today. What other ways can you think of that will help you save for your child’s (or your own) tuition?
